Guided from a young age by his grandmother’s words—“Be ye kind”—Albert “Al” E. Depew has dedicated his career to helping people, both professionally and as a community advocate.
Upon graduating from Grove City College with a Bachelor of Science in 1968, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he was certified as an ENT technician and active as an instructor, a private duty nurse, an E5 AS Hospital Corpsman, a surgical assistant, and a surgeon of the ear, nose, and throat for members of the military across numerous clinics and surgical sites through 1972. During this time, he completed the first angle-to-angle mandible transplant and authored a text “Curriculum for Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Technicians.” A proud member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he found it extremely rewarding to operate with numerous veterans of the Korean and Vietnam Wars; he was honored by the VFW in 2008.
Since 1971, Mr. Depew has found remarkable success as the president of Depew Tax/Estate Planning, through which he works with attorneys and judges and helps a wide range of clients with retirement planning and income tax. Priding himself in his sincere compassion for people, he considers his career highlight in this capacity to be the culmination of handling more than $1 billion of estate values—providing personal and financial guidance—so that most clients felt comfortable with their plans. He has also lent his financial planning expertise to the “Chronically Gifted” cassette series in the 1970s. As a testament to his impact in the field, he was recognized with a Lifetime Award for 50 Years as an Estate Planner by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils in 2021.
Outside of his primary endeavors, Mr. Depew has equally devoted his time and energy toward boosting his community in Butler County, Pennsylvania, as a longtime vice president of the organizations, Butler County Against Heroin and Play Ball for Kids. He previously served as the VP of the Drug and Alcohol Board for the county from 1977 to 1989 and secretary of the North Main Street Church of God from 1973 to 1982. He has also been devoted to Gideon’s International for several years, through which he previously taught faith at the Butler County Prison.
Looking forward to a future of continued work and growth, Mr. Depew also plans to focus on his hobbies, such as reading, writing, singing at churches and special events, and traveling with his wife, Joan, whom he called “a distinguished and capable lady and best friend.”
